Dr. Renato Martins, MD, MPH (Advisory Board Member): Dr. Martins, a native of Brazil, is medical director of thoracic and head and neck oncology at SCCA and an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine.After completing medical school in Brazil, Dr. Martins came to the United States for further training. He did a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School while also earning a master’s degree in public health at Harvard in 1998. Dr. Martins then returned to Brazil, where he was chief of medical oncology at the Brazilian National Cancer Institute in Rio de Janero until he accepted his present positions at SCCA and the University of Washington. He arrived in Seattle in February 2004. Dr. Martins and his wife have two daughters.
Lana Fauser: A native of the Northwest, Lana lives in Bellevue, Washington. Lana and her husband, Mike, have a one-year-old son named Liam. She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Economics. In addition to being a stay at home mom, she is also the director of marketing and bookkeeper for Mike’s financial planning and investment management business. Through the financial planning practice, Lana has seen firsthand the effect cancer can have on a family. She hopes her marketing and bookkeeping skills will help the Bob Miller Foundation in its effort to make a difference.
Michelle Parsons: Michelle was raised in and still resides in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, and has since used her degree to become a Senior Program Manager at Intelius. In addition to bringing her business background and knack for creating websites to BMF, Michelle also lost her dad at a young age. She is passionate about helping people cope with the death of a family member and hopes to make a difference through her involvement with Bob Miller Foundation.
Chris Wallace: A true Bostonian at heart, Chris Wallace hails from Massachusetts and currently resides in Chicago with his wife Sara. He attended school at the University of New Hampshire and graduated with a B.S. in Health Management and Policy. Chris grew up with a passion for helping people, and has been connected to healthcare from a young age while growing up with a mom who is an RN. Cancer has run throughout his family in many different forms from thyroid, to skin, to breast, and most recently lung cancer with the passing of his grandfather in 2008. Chris will use his marketing skills and healthcare background to help ease the pain of family members dealing with lung cancer in his role as a board member of the Bob Miller Foundation.
Sara (Gessner) Wallace: Sara needs more than one sentence to say where she’s from, but these days she calls Chicago home. A graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder, Sara moved east to hone her marketing skills in Boston until 2008 brought her and her husband (Chris) to Chicago. Sara and Chris were hit firsthand with the effects of lung cancer, having watched Chris’s grandfather struggle with a rare form of mesothelioma. Being able to help other families is a necessary and important way to give back to the growing number of people touched by this disease. Sara shares her marketing and communications expertise as a board member for BMF.
